I bought a 300 Hirth motor at and auction couple of years ago seized poured some diesel in the spark plug hole screwed the plug back in stuck it under the bench and forgot about it. Yesterday was looking for something to do I spotted the motor pulled it out and proceeded to tear it apart. other then the spark plug wire everything behind the flywheel looked good. The motor was still seized so still proceeded pulled the head off looks good then pulled the jug off piston and rings look good. Still seized so now I am thinking I might be able to save this one the bearings are probably toast. Now the question I have all the bolts out and I want to split the case Clymer manual says to heat the housing tried that won't budge is there a trick that better mechanics then myself use because I am not that good but want to get better or should I use it as a boat anchor? It is a 190R 300cc. SCM

Haven't done this on a Hirth single, but did it on a JLO single. Heating and a soft face hammer got the cases to split for me.

I have a Hirth tool made for splitting their crankcases. I have not used it yet but it looks like it should work fine. I don't know where you live SCM but aren't you going to Wizzers' this weekend? If you want to throw in your motor I will bring the tool and we can try it out.
Wish I had a picture of it now, so I could show you what it looks like. It is basically a big plate with holes to bolt to the casing and a bolt like a flywheel puller to go against the end of the crank.

Never heard of that tool, but it sounds like a great idea and easy enough to make.

I will take a picture of it this weekend and post it on Monday if I survive Wizzfest.
