Hello Vintage Sledders! I am Dana Luikens from Nevis Mn. I have had old sleds since they were new, about 40 years. I got rid of them ten years ago and then the bug bit again. So far have a 1970 Herters, 1970 Rupp, 1979 Pantera, 1980 Jag, 1985 Polaris, 1990 Yamaha leifer, 1993 Panther, 1981 El Tigre. I just found this site today and honestly have not looked at nearly what there seems to be available, just enough to know I want to partake in what looks like a really fun site. I need to share my snowmobile mania somewhere! I saw a camp at Princeton, and I think the sign said, "Vintage Sledders". If that is you, all, I'll be seein you at the shows. I usually go to Princeton, Crosby, and will try to get to Bagley this weekend, as well as some of the rides. I need to get a camera so I can post and avatar.  Think Snow! Later...

welcome aboard Dana!

The sign you saw at Princeton is for this group of clowns!  A bunch of fun and very knowledgeable people on here so browse around and check it out!

Thanks for joining the madness!  d.r.i.n.k.

Hello all,
I'm Chris and I received a couple of Moto Ski's about a month ago in trade for some work I did. I havent ridden a sled for nearly ten years but I like to tinker with small motors and it seemed like a good opportunity to have something to do in the winter. The sleds i have are a 1978 Sonic with a nearly seized rusty 345 air cooled Rotax (been using it to steal parts) and a 1979 Super Sonic with 354 liquid cooled Rotax that has supposedly been bored to a 440, although the guy at the local speed shop says that would be quite a jump and isnt likely. The sleds sat in a field near a road for more than ten years so theyre missing a few parts and are in rough shape. Hopefully will have the Super back together in a week or two. You seem to a have the most active of all the sled forums I've looked at so here I am.

Welcome to the board!

It was pretty common to bolt on a 440 top end to the 340's. Good chance that's what you have, it'll be a rocket when you get it running... Keep us posted.  2utp

Hi, my name is Cecil "Butch" Fossell and I live on the family farm east of Kennedy, MN which is in the corner of Northwest Minnesota.  My Dad brought home our first snowmobile Christmas Eve 1965 a 10hp Polaris Mustang.  My mother was so mad that it just about caused a divorce but the next year we had two machines.  Over the years I've had Polaris, Ski-Doo's and Massey-Ferguson machines.  In 1974 I ran the International 500 Snowmobile Race aboard a Massey Ski Whiz 304 and still own the machine.  It has been restored to its 500 status and this year I had the lettering redone.  Other machines I own include:  1976 Massey Cyclone 340; 1977 440 Massey Storm; 1976 Massey Whirlwind; 1969 Massey Ski Whiz 372 cc JLO; 1970 Massey Ski Whiz 500 SST; 1972 Massey Formula IV; 1970 Polaris Charger; 1969 Homelite; John Deere Spitfire; 1967 or 66 SnoFlake.  I collect Massey's and if anyone has spare parts or a machine to sell please drop me a line.  Happy Collecting.

Well, my name is Russell Baird, I am 19, and I am a vintage sledder because they're the ones that are fun. Nothing quite like not knowing if you're riding the sled back or dragging it to a road adds a nice level of danger.

Welcome Russell!

The danger factor for me is the fact I'm even riding on something so unpredictable. Enjoy the site!

I would post pictures if I knew how.  I think I am bringing the sled to Pequot Lakes, MN if you plan on attending that show. There were actually 6 of us in the I-500 aboard Massey's in 1974.
