Arc charity build-"Make a Kitty Pretty"

The Arc Headwaters have been very helpful to Marci and I in providing information and assistance in how, where, what and so on for dealing with our daughters ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

They have helped us start a great parent support group going in our area as well as providing workshops and information to parents of children with all disabilities. People as a rule have difficulty understanding or relating when you have a child with a disability.

The fine folks at Arc understand and are willing to help. Our 5 year old daughter Kylie is our only child and a blue eyed daddies girl. She loves getting rides on snowmobiles or being pulled around in a sled. She got a got a new helmet for Christmas and insists on wearing it whenever she goes for a ride.

Has anyone heard of Hairball? They are an 80's cover band that plays all the old hair band music from the 80's. My wife Marci and I attended a fundraiser concert for the Arc Headwaters last spring and the event was a complete money losing flop. I decided to see if I could help out, "Make a Kitty Pretty" was born.

One day while quoting a heating job, I noticed an old sled sitting in the garage of the gentleman I was visiting. It was nestled in behind some stuff nearly hidden from view but easily spotted by my trained sled spying eyes.

Upon further inspection it appeared to be an Arctic Cat, about a 70 or 71 Lynx. No big deal, there seems to be a Lynx around every corner. But wait; this one has a four stroke engine.

This was a low production model. The book I found stated that only 910 of these four stroke Lynx were made in 1971. I struck up a deal with the owner and the "Make a Kitty Pretty" was underway.kitty

The project has received a tremendous response so far with people steeping up to donate time, money, and parts from all over the country. We had our tear down day on June 27 and the crew quickly got the cat stripped down to the bare chassis. Marci made too much food for the crew but nobody complained.

The finished sled will be raffled off. We plan to print 1000 tickets and sell them at $10 each. There will be other great prizes as well. The drawing date for this "Pretty Kitty" will be sometime in 2010.

Thank you for your support,

Dan Skersick, Bemidji Mn.
